"I can't believe my eyes!" How many times have you said that in your life. Well...lit applies to the food you put in your mouth every day. If your meat looks fresh it may have been treated with carbon monoxide. It makes the meat stay red...and stay red...and stay red, fresh appearing even if it is not, fresh appearing for WEEKS!
I have talked before about the additives that are put in our food and the beverages we drink, (Getting High at the 7-11) but what the hell are they? Just what is yellow dye #5 and #6 and blue dye #2 and #3 and green dye #3?
There are 7 dyes approved by the FDA for adding to your food. That scares me because I don't trust the FDA, which I think stands for Fool'em, Drug'em & Addict'em. Most of the dyes are derived from coal tar. I'm sorry but "coal tar" is an industrial waste. Some say a beneficial waste because they get benzine from it and acetaminophen. By the way acetaminophen or Tylenol as we know the brand name is in fact a liver poison and is banned in China and severely restricted in England. Benzine is highly inflammable and causes cancer. IT'S INDUSTRIAL WASTE.
It begs the question, why are we looking in industrial waste for something to put in our food? Another common additive is Taurine. Taurine from Taurus the bull. Taurine is found in bull bile. Again why are we looking in bull bile for something to put in our food? Puleeese!!
The answer is: to make it LOOK PRETTY, the object of which is to fool your eyes! So I feel ripped off as a long time lover of corn puffs by what ever brand name. I always thought they were pretty yellow because of the CHEESE. Nope...yellow dye #6. It's like they spray paint the stuff with yellow dye.
You have seen and eaten lots of food products containing red dye #40. I hope you are not squeamish because red dye #40 is squeezed from the dead bodies of insects, specifically the "Cactyopius coccus costa." They harvest the insect in South America and the Canary Islands. It takes about 75,000 dead bugs to make a pound of red dye. This red dye winds up in your food and cosmetics . It is what makes lipstick red, strawberry and cherry yogurt red as well as most snack foods that say "Cajun." Ah yummy!
Are these dyes harmful? Folks have had reactions ranging from skin rash to death. But obviously most people don't notice any ill effects. I have been eating corn puffs for years. I guess what pisses me off the most is that they don't tell you what yellow dye #5 and red dye #40 really is. Tell me on the package that the yellows are derived from industrial waste and red dye is insect based. I will probably eat it anyway...if I high enough...but I want to know. Don't you? Did you know red dye #40 came from crushed insects? I didn't either. I think that the ingredients ought to be in letters as large as the brand name, if they are proud of the stuff. They must not be because it is always in the fine print. Hiding something by making it small just doesn't seem right, especially if is is something I am about to buy and put in my mouth.
I guess you know you can't trust the government, you can't trust the corporations that manufacture our food, and no...you cannot believe your eyes!!
