30,521 is a number burned into my mind. 30,521 is the number of Multnomah County residents that voted for me for sheriff of Multnomah county. The election ended May 31. Had I won and if I could have taken office that day, we would now be 90 days into my administration. Let me give you an idea of what would be happening right now in Multnomah County.
By now I wold have worked every patrol shift, every jail shift, every shift on the river patrol and worked with every detective. I would be well underway to a professional study of how the Sheriff's office should be economically staffed. The study would be accurate because I would have worked the shifts.
We'd have torn down some of the barbed wire at Wapato jail The already existing class rooms, there to teach non-existing inmates GED, would now be class rooms teaching children. The hospital would be treating the under served children and elderly, and the many dorms would be housing for the homeless. How do I know? Because I would open it with $30,000 of my own money.
I wold interview every cop on the so-called inter agency drug team that didn't work for me. I would be working over their shoulder...and they would know it.
All marijuana arrests would stop!! And all in progress drug investigations would be approved by me. Or not!
The Patriot act would be gone. Multnomah County would have the old constitution back. Homeland Security could have their damned speed boats back. I think the SO got two of them. We'd buy our own boats with the money we'd save by not arresting the same poor people over and over again.
Can you say revolving jail door boys and girls? Can you say treatment?
Part of the initial funding for Wapato jail was for treatment. I wanted to do it. Meth addicts would be forced into treatment. Remember the faces of Meth? That's proof that arresting them over and over don't work STOP IT! TREAT IT!
Tazers would be history in Multnomah County, by order of the high sheriff. I would heed the call of Amnesty International to ban the damned things and no law enforcement agency would be allowed to use them. Amnesty International would be invited to a ceremony where they would be destroyed.
By now the county attorney at my direction would have filed a lawsuit against the police union in Multnomah County to end once and for all special justice for police. The 14'th amendment requires "equal justice for all," not an internal affairs white wash that covers up all police wrong doing. Have you ever wondered why no matter what cops seem to do they are always within their police department policy? Cops that worked for me and screwed up, would have their hearings in council chambers in front of the tax payers that employ them...or they would be mowing the lawn at the jail on the graveyard shift! No more special justice for cops!!
By now, holistic progressive policies would would have begun in Multnomah County politics. I would pressure, cajole, and harass if necessary county and city bureaucrats that make over $80,000 a year at the public trough to give back 25 or 30 thousand like I would. What if all 5 county commissioners gave back 25 grand. We'd have instant cash to unstick the stuck bureaucracy. Oh yeah, the DEA would not be welcome in MC either.
And finally one last thing. The reason I left the cops was because they were running drugs and killing people. This is not hearsay or rumor. I have personal knowledge of it and nothing has changed. Ask the new lady police chief why she won't investigate the murder of Zebedee Manning. The corrupt cops will never investigate themselves.
30,521 votes scared the hell out of them. So what happens next? I don't know. Supporters please tell me.
